So the annual DSEP conference took place in Belfast in 2024 across the 3rd-4th December, and what a few days it was!
A few of my selected highlights...
- New connections (and refreshed connections) with colleagues and those promoting applied work within sport, exercise and academic environments
- Listening to Dr Paul Gaffney speaking about performance environments, the Team Ireland 'Athena' model, Paris Olympics, and Maya Angleou.
- Richard Sille being vulnerable and open regarding existentialism within motorcycle racing consultancies, with specific focus around the Isle of Man TT experiences.
- Noel Brick shining an important light upon his work with match officials, developing their resilience through workshops and research into the mental health experiences of officials in sport.
- The panel discussion between key members of the Team Ireland support team (Leanne Sharp, Kate Kirby, and Joanne Browne) alongside commonwealth boxing champion Aiden Walsh.
- Zoe Black and Rachel Hannen discussing the SiS structure and support provision, alongside some key case studies for reflection on best practice and ethics.
- Every session, presentation, and conversation held so much value, and I thank everyone who I had the pleasure to listen to and speak with across the few days!
Beyond the psychology...
- Walking through the Belfast Christmas Markets
- The social within the Belfast City Hall - What a venue!
- My battery as a practitioner being recharged and an eagerness to go and do once again!
