New Study Released: Balancing Athletic and Academic Excellence: A Quantitative Study of Student-Athletes' Time Management Strategies (Liu & Taresh, 2024)

In short: A 'flexible focus' strategy enabled students to quickly switch their attention between learning and training while maintaining high efficiency and performance.

More detail: A one-year investigation of college student-athletes investigated the relationship between time management strategies, academic achievement, athletic performance and psychological health. The research identified serval time management strategies which were associated with significant improvement in athlete and academic performance. These included 'flexible focus', in addition to effective navigation of social media usage, sleep patterns, and nutritional intake. 

The research proposes a 'dual-track development model' which provide a practical framework for supporting dual career athletes. The model is valuable as it is not only relevant for traditional sport experiences; the model considers esports, and this inclusion offers a perspective for understanding and supporting the development of 21st century dual-career athletes.
